Library Reading Room

The renovation of a reading room in a post-war library, with new oak furniture, acoustic ceilings and carefully tuned lighting.

The room had been subdivided and filled with shelving over the years. We restored its original proportions and moved most of the collection to the perimeter.

Long oak tables with integrated lamps sit beneath a new acoustic ceiling made from wood wool panels, bringing the room’s echo down to a comfortable murmur.

Every table has a power outlet, and a small number of enclosed booths allow for calls and group work without disturbing readers.
